Port Milang Historic Railway Museum Lease

Have your say by 5pm on Friday 5 January, 2018.

The Port Milang Historic Railway Museum Inc. requests a 21 year lease with Council for the continued occupancy of a portion of Section 182, Lot 5 Daranda Terrace Milang, Crown Record Volume 5913 Folio 252.

The land is used extensively by The Port Milang Historic Railway Museum Inc. for historic railway community purposes including a museum, SA Light Railway Centre, craft shop and café. Future projects include an extension to the original building for additional exhibits, a ‘shunting experience’ for visitors, which simulates a locomotive, an interpretative story of the horse tramway with a heritage walking trail and sculptured horse, installation of picnic tables, extensions to the platform station in order to make the facility accessible to everyone and completion of the turntable installation. As the intended term of the lease exceeds five years, public consultation is required.

The Port Milang Historic Railway Museum Inc. also request a road rental permit with Council to reflect the possible future placement of associated infrastructure including fencing and museum memorabilia, on a small portion of the adjoining road reserve. As any future infrastructure on the road reserve would result in part of the road being fenced so as to impede the passage of traffic to a material degree, public consultation is required.

Written submissions regarding ThePort Milang Historic Railway Museum Inc. draft lease and road rentalapplication will be accepted by Council until 5pm on Friday 5 January 2018.

Please direct all written submissions to or by post to the Chief Executive Officer, PO Box 21, Goolwa SA 5214 or fill out an online form here.
